Resource Hints: Preconnect, Preload, Prerender

I was a meetup this week where Ilya Grigorik, Web Performance Engineer @ Google, gave a great talk about Resource Hints that you can add to your application or website to improve performance. He specifically covered using preconnect, preload, and prerender. Keep in mind these are currently draft specifications.

One thing I learned was that using dns-prefetch is more or less pointless if there’s an alternative like prerender. Doesn’t make sense to only resolve the DNS name but not actually connect to the server.
